Something Like This
These five paintings were part of a solo show called "Something Like This." I had been particularly interested in that point at which one thing becomes another thing. In this case, I was interested in that space when a panorama becomes a diorama becomes a theater set becomes a sculpture becomes a real thing.
The first painting took its starting point from the Bourbaki Panorama. The other four paintings continued outward, on a tangent, moving further away from that very specific starting point. The paintings then functioned as backdrops for the set-pieces, taxidermed animals, sculptures of the gallerist's dog, viewers, and the actual dog.
The show was filled with winter scenes and took place in January. It was important to me that gallery viewers be dressed in winter-wear to further blur lines between representation and actual.
